Did you know that the English flag originates from Genoa?

Pandolce – from Genoa to England

Pandolce has its origins in Genoa, one of Europe's most powerful maritime cities during the 19th century. As a trading hub with strong ties across the seas, not only goods but also tastes and traditions spread.

The relationship between Genoa and England goes way back. According to historical accounts, English ships used Genoa's cross flag – Saint George's red cross – for protection during their voyages in the Mediterranean. This shows how strong Genoa's influence was as a maritime power.

Through this lively trade, baked goods like Pandolce also reached new markets. In England, it inspired the classic “Genoa cake,” a fruitcake rich in dried fruit and nuts.

Pandolce is thus more than a pastry – it is a taste of history, where shipping, trade, and culture meet in every bite.
